The Story Behind the Painting
There is something timeless about watching a single yacht cutting confidently through open water. The towering sail dominates the composition, yet the movement of the sea beneath reminds us of the strength and unpredictability of nature.
For this piece, I deliberately stripped away unnecessary detail, allowing the yacht to emerge through layers of texture and soft neutral tones. Fragments of typography and weathered surfaces are worked into the painting, creating a sense of history and suggesting the passage of time.
The muted palette of greys, creams and deep blues gives Z-99 a calm, understated elegance. Rather than focusing on the excitement of racing, this painting is about balance, craftsmanship and the quiet confidence of a yacht moving effortlessly across the water.
Its simplicity is what gives the piece its strength, making it equally at home in both contemporary and traditional interiors.
