Sometimes the best view isn't from the grandstand.
The Best View captures one of those wonderfully simple moments at Henley, two people sitting together at the water's edge, watching the rowing races unfold along the river.
Rather than focusing on the competition itself, this piece celebrates the experience of being there. The anticipation of a race approaching, the movement on the water and those quieter moments shared beside the Thames.
For anyone with a connection to Henley Royal Regatta, rowing or life on the river, it is a small painting with a very personal sense of place.
THE PROCESS
Created using Gill's distinctive mixed media technique, The Best View combines layers of imagery, paint, texture and expressive mark making to capture the atmosphere and movement of the river.
Look closely and individual details begin to emerge, while from a distance the layers come together to create a fleeting moment beside the water.
