The Inspiration
Sunset in London captures the city as day gives way to evening, when warm light reflects across rain-soaked streets and London's familiar architecture takes on an entirely different mood. Expressive brushwork, layered textures and rich contemporary colour recreate the atmosphere of the capital at its most captivating.
 
The Story Behind the Painting
London transforms as the sun begins to set.
The rush of the day slows just enough for light to catch the buildings, reflections stretch across the pavement and familiar streets become almost cinematic. Rather than focusing on architectural precision, I wanted to paint the experience of walking through the city as daylight fades into evening.
Built with layers of acrylic and gel medium on fine Hahnemühle German Etching paper, the painting combines bold expressive marks with subtle textures that allow the city to emerge gradually. Figures become silhouettes moving through the light, inviting the viewer to imagine themselves within the scene.
It is a celebration of London's atmosphere, its energy, changing light and timeless appeal.
