The Story Behind the Painting
Some streets invite you to slow down.
Stonegate is one of those places where history is woven into everyday life. Ancient buildings lean gently towards one another, while shoppers, visitors and locals fill the narrow street with movement and conversation.
Rather than painting every architectural detail, I wanted to capture the feeling of walking through Stonegate—the changing light, the rhythm of people passing by and the timeless character that makes York so distinctive.
Layers of acrylic, textured mediums and printed elements create depth and atmosphere, allowing the buildings to emerge through expressive brushwork while the figures provide a sense of life and scale. The result is a painting that celebrates both the beauty of the city and the experience of being there.
