The Inspiration
Serena explores strength, determination and movement through layers of texture, typography and expressive colour. Rather than creating a traditional portrait, I wanted to capture the energy and presence of an athlete whose influence extends far beyond the court.
 
The Story Behind the Painting
Some people become bigger than their profession.
I've always been fascinated by individuals whose determination inspires others, and Serena Williams is one of those rare figures. This painting isn't intended as a photographic likeness. Instead, it combines fragments of typography, collage, texture and expressive paint to reflect confidence, resilience and the intensity of elite sport.
The layered surface mirrors the complexity of achievement. Newspaper fragments, bold marks and transparent glazes build a history across the canvas, much like the years of dedication that lie behind every success.
Rather than focusing on one defining moment, I wanted to create a portrait that suggests movement, character and the lasting impact of someone who has changed their sport forever.
