Rise and Shine captures the quiet anticipation of an early morning outing, when the water is still, the light is just beginning to break, and every stroke carries the crew towards a new day. It celebrates the discipline, teamwork and beauty that make rowing such a captivating sport.
 
The Story Behind the Painting
Rowing has been a recurring theme throughout my work because it combines strength with elegance. In Rise and Shine, I wanted to capture the magical light that appears at sunrise, when the reflections on the river become as colourful as the sky itself.
Built with rich layers of mixed media and expressive textures, the painting allows the colours to flow across the water, creating movement long after the rowers have passed. Warm pinks, golds and soft blues blend together to evoke the calm of an early morning, while the silhouettes of the crew provide rhythm and balance within the composition.
The painting is less about the race itself and more about the shared experience of being on the water at the very start of the day, when everything feels full of possibility.
