The Inspiration
Land Ahoy celebrates the excitement and anticipation of sailing towards the shoreline after a day on the water. Filled with colourful sails, racing flags and bright coastal light, the painting captures the energy of a yacht regatta while still conveying the peaceful freedom that only sailing can offer.
 
The Story Behind the Painting
Sailing has always been one of my greatest inspirations, and Land Ahoy reflects my love of being out on the water surrounded by wind, light and movement.
Rather than painting every detail of the yachts, I wanted to create an impression of the experience itself. Layers of mixed media, expressive brushwork and fragments of colour suggest the fluttering of racing pennants, the pull of the sails and the sparkle of sunlight across the water.
The composition draws your eye directly towards the bow of the leading yacht, placing you almost on board as it heads confidently towards the harbour. Soft coastal tones are lifted with vibrant blues, reds and yellows, creating a painting that feels both contemporary and full of optimism.
