The Story Behind the Painting
Woodlands have a remarkable way of slowing time.
After snowfall, familiar paths become transformed. Sound is muted, colours become softer and every shaft of light seems brighter against the crisp white landscape. I wanted to capture that fleeting moment when the forest feels almost untouched, inviting you to pause and simply absorb the silence.
Using layers of acrylic, textured mediums and expressive marks, I allowed the trees to emerge naturally through the painting rather than defining every detail. The vertical trunks draw the eye towards the light beyond, while subtle colour hidden within the snow brings warmth and life to what first appears to be a monochrome scene.
The result is less about a specific woodland and more about the feeling of finding peace amongst the trees.
