The Inspiration
Guggenheim (2) continues my exploration of the remarkable interior of New York's Guggenheim Museum. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's sweeping spiral architecture, this companion piece celebrates the quiet rhythm of visitors moving through light-filled galleries, where architecture and art become inseparable.
Designed as a partner to Guggenheim (1), the two paintings work beautifully together as a contemporary diptych while remaining equally strong as individual works.
 
The Story Behind the Painting
Some spaces invite you to slow down.
As I walked through the Guggenheim, I became fascinated by the way people appeared along the museum's continuous ramps—small figures framed against sweeping white curves that seemed to float through the building.
This painting focuses even more on that human experience. Rather than emphasising the architecture alone, I wanted to show how visitors become part of the composition, their movement bringing scale, life and quiet narrative to the museum's remarkable interior. Soft layers of acrylic, textured mediums and translucent washes create a sense of openness and light, while subtle colours move across the surface much like changing exhibitions viewed in passing.
Although created as a companion to Guggenheim (1), this painting has its own rhythm and atmosphere. Displayed together, the two works create a wider visual conversation that echoes the continuous spiral journey through the museum itself.
