Dreaming of New York captures the atmosphere of the city as a memory rather than a literal view. The Manhattan Bridge rises through soft layers of texture, light and muted colour, surrounded by the movement and architecture of the streets below.
 
The Story Behind the Painting
Some cities stay with you long after you leave them.
New York is one of those places for me. Its scale, energy and architecture create such a strong impression that memories of the city often feel layered together rather than fixed to one moment.
In Dreaming of New York, I wanted the Manhattan Bridge to emerge gradually through the surface, almost as though it were appearing from memory. The surrounding buildings and streets dissolve into expressive marks, soft colour and textured layers, allowing the viewer to experience the mood of the city rather than simply observe a landmark.
Created using mixed media on paper and board, the painting combines delicate architectural detail with a looser, more atmospheric approach. The result is a reflective cityscape that captures both the energy of New York and the feeling of looking back on a place that continues to inspire.
