Original Mixed Media Paris Painting
The Inspiration
Cafe L'Etincell captures the timeless charm of a Parisian street corner, where cafés spill onto the pavement and everyday moments become lasting memories. Rich textures, layered typography and expressive brushwork create a contemporary interpretation of one of Europe's most inspiring cities.
The Story Behind the Painting
Paris has always fascinated me because every street seems to tell a story. Rather than painting an exact architectural record, I'm interested in capturing the feeling of wandering through the city, discovering hidden cafés, weathered buildings and the gentle rhythm of daily life.
For Cafe L'Etincell, I built the composition through layers of paint, printed elements and textured surfaces that suggest years of history beneath the façade. The warm sunlight, colourful shopfronts and intricate balconies invite the viewer to pause, just as you might when finding a favourite café while exploring Paris.
It's a painting that celebrates atmosphere as much as architecture, encouraging the viewer to imagine themselves stepping into the scene.
From Gill's Sketchbook
"The cafés are never just buildings. They're places where people meet, watch the world go by and create memories. That's what I wanted this painting to capture."
