The Inspiration
Blue is one of my signature paintings—a large-scale sailing scene inspired by the peace and freedom that can only be found on open water. Built through countless layers of paint and texture, it explores light, reflection and the quiet power of the sea.
 
The Story Behind the Painting
Some paintings evolve naturally. Others become something much bigger than originally imagined.
Blue is one of those paintings.
Created on an impressive 150 × 100 cm canvas, I wanted to produce a piece that would completely immerse the viewer. Rather than simply painting a yacht on the water, I wanted you to feel surrounded by the atmosphere—the soft movement of the sea, the changing light and the sense of complete tranquillity that sailing can bring.
Layer upon layer of paint was applied, scraped back and rebuilt to create depth and luminosity within the water. The subtle blues, soft greys and warm reflected light change throughout the day, giving the painting a different mood as natural light moves across its textured surface.
This has become one of my most admired paintings, regularly attracting attention at exhibitions and art fairs. Its scale is part of its presence, allowing the atmosphere to unfold in a way that smaller works simply cannot achieve. Blue isn't designed to sit quietly on a wall, it becomes part of the room itself.
