The Story Behind the Painting
New York has always fascinated me. The city never seems to stand still, yet within the constant movement there are fleeting moments of beauty that are easy to miss.
Walking along 42nd Street as daylight faded, I was struck by the warmth of the illuminated buildings reflecting onto the rain-soaked streets. The crowds became silhouettes, disappearing into layers of colour, texture and light, while the architecture emerged through washes of paint and fragments of typography.
I wanted this painting to feel less like a literal cityscape and more like a memory of New York, where movement, atmosphere and emotion blend together. Building up multiple layers of acrylic, texture mediums and collage allowed me to recreate the energy and depth that make the city so captivating.
42nd Street celebrates the excitement, warmth and organised chaos that make New York unlike anywhere else.
