The Colours We Bring Home From Our Travels

Have you ever noticed how certain colours instantly transport you back to a place you've loved?

The brilliant white walls of a Greek island glowing in the evening sun. The deep blue of the Mediterranean stretching to the horizon. The warm terracotta of an Italian village. The soft greys of an English morning or the rich golds reflected in the windows of a favourite city at sunset.

Long after we've unpacked our suitcase, those colours stay with us.

For me, that's often where a painting begins

When I travel, I take photographs and make notes, but what I'm really collecting are impressions. The warmth of the light, the atmosphere of a harbour at dusk, the movement of people through a busy street or the calm of standing beside the sea. Those moments find their way into my work, often long after I've returned home.

It's why I don't simply paint a place.

I paint the feeling of being there.

One of the greatest compliments I receive is when someone tells me that a painting reminds them of a special holiday, a favourite city or a place that means something to them. It may not even be the exact location I've painted. Sometimes it's simply the colours, the light or the atmosphere that reconnects them with a memory.

I think that's one of the wonderful things about original art. It doesn't just decorate a room. It becomes part of the story of the people who live there.

Every painting carries a little of the places that have inspired me, but once it finds a new home, it begins a new story of its own.

As I continue travelling, I'm always discovering new colours, new light and new places that spark ideas for future paintings. I never really know where the next inspiration will come from, and perhaps that's part of the joy of the journey.

Wherever your favourite place may be, I hope my paintings remind you that some memories deserve to be enjoyed every day, not just while you're away.
