ANNIVERSARY ART COMMISSIONS

​Finding a truly meaningful anniversary gift isn't always easy, particularly when you're celebrating many years together and want to give something that feels personal rather than simply another possession.

An original artwork can tell a very different story. I create bespoke anniversary art commissions, transforming places, memories and moments that mean something to you both into a completely original Gill Storr painting. It might be the place where you first met. The view from your wedding day. A favourite city. Your honeymoon destination. A much-loved family home. Somewhere you've returned to year after year.

​A truly personal anniversary gift

Every relationship has places that become part of its history. Sometimes they're extraordinary destinations. Sometimes they're surprisingly ordinary places that mean everything to the two people involved. That's what makes an anniversary commission so personal. Using your photographs, memories and ideas as my starting point, I'll create an original mixed media painting in my distinctive style, combining photography with expressive paint, texture and layered detail. I don't simply reproduce a photograph.

I interpret it. The aim is to capture the feeling and memory of the place, creating an artwork that is recognisably yours while remaining unmistakably a Gill Storr original.

What could your painting capture?

Your anniversary artwork could be inspired by:

And it doesn't have to be obvious. Sometimes the most meaningful commissions begin with a place that would mean very little to anybody else, but means everything to you.

Created from your photographs and memories

You don't need a professional photograph to commission a painting. We can begin with photographs you've taken yourselves, older family photographs or a selection of images that help me understand the place and the memories surrounding it. I'll talk to you about what makes the subject significant, the colours and atmosphere you're drawn to and where you imagine the finished artwork living. From there, I'll develop the composition and create the painting using my characteristic combination of photography, paint, texture and mixed media.

​How an anniversary commission works

1. Tell me your story

It starts with a conversation. Tell me about the anniversary, who the painting is for and the place or memory you'd like the artwork to capture. You can then send me photographs and any other details that might help me understand the story behind the commission.

2. Choose the size

We'll discuss where the painting may eventually hang and choose a scale that works beautifully within the space. If you're unsure, I'm very happy to advise.

3. I create your original

Once everything has been agreed, I'll begin creating the artwork in my studio. Your photographs provide the starting point, but the finished painting will be interpreted through my own distinctive mixed-media style rather than simply reproducing the original image.

4. Your painting is completed

Once finished, your original artwork will be prepared for collection or delivery. The painting is signed and supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity, confirming it as an original Gill Storr artwork.

An anniversary gift that becomes part of your home

One of the things I love about creating anniversary commissions is knowing that the finished painting isn't going to disappear into a drawer after the celebration. It becomes part of the home. You'll walk past it every day. Visitors will ask about it. And behind the artwork is a story that belongs entirely to you. Years later, it can still take you back to the place and moment that inspired it. That's what makes an original artwork such an extraordinary anniversary gift.

Absolutely! Many anniversary commissions are arranged as a surprise, and I'm very happy to work discreetly with you throughout the process. If you're uncertain about the exact size or where the artwork should eventually hang, we can discuss the options together without spoiling the surprise. If you're working towards a particular anniversary date, please contact me as early as possible. Original paintings take time to create, and my commission availability is limited.

My paintings are highly layered and textured, and photographs can never quite reproduce the experience of seeing an original artwork in person. Where practical, you're very welcome to arrange a private viewing to see examples of my work, discuss your ideas and experience the texture, colour and detail up close.
