Embellished Art on Paper of Grand Central Terminal, New York
The Inspiration
Grand Central began life as one of my preliminary sketches while developing a larger series inspired by New York. Created outside the iconic Grand Central Terminal, it captures the energy of the city with its famous yellow taxis, bustling streets and timeless architecture.
The Story Behind the Artwork
Every finished painting starts with an idea.
When I visit a city, I often create smaller studies to explore composition, colour and atmosphere before beginning a larger original piece. Grand Central is one of those early works, a moment captured while exploring the movement and excitement surrounding one of New York's most recognisable landmarks.
Rather than simply reproducing the original image, each archival print is individually hand embellished with oil pastel, adding texture, colour and unique marks so that every edition has its own character. No two embellished prints are ever exactly alike.
For collectors, these pieces offer the opportunity to own an important part of my creative journey, combining the quality of archival printing with genuine hand-finished artwork.
From Gill's Sketchbook
"I always sketch before beginning a larger painting. These smaller pieces allow me to experiment with colour, light and composition, and often become favourites in their own right. Grand Central is one of those places that never stands still."
A Personal Invitation
